SixTwelve Scotty Irani Cake Walk Bake Off

ATTENTION: WE HAVE FILLED ALL CAKE ENTRY SPOTS SO REGISTRATION FOR THE BAKE OFF IS NOW CLOSED, BUT YOU CAN STILL REGISTER FOR THE EASTER BONNET COMPETITION AND/OR COME FOR THE CAKE WALK!

Please join us at SixTwelve on Saturday, March 30th, 2024 (one day before Easter). We finally brought back our annual Cake Walk Bake Off last year and this year’s event is sure to top it because we’re making it bigger, better and more honoring of the bakers that decide to compete! We’ve name this event in honor and in memory of one of our all-time favorite humans, Chef Scotty Irani.

Chef Scotty helped us every year (pre-pandemic) to plan and hold this event in order to help us raise funds for our SixTwelve teaching kitchen; he taught camps and classes to kids and adults and lent a whole lot of support. We would absolutely not be who we are without all of the love and support that Scotty gave to us so we want to celebrate his life in this very fun way!

We’ll also be holding an Easter Bonnet Competition so start dreaming about what you want your bonnet to look like. The bigger the better!

travis linville

When someone comes from as strong a musical stock as Travis Linville, a conventional life and the path not taken are irreversibly conjoined. His preternatural musical work ethic was ignited as a small child on the built-in stage in his grandparents’ music room, and since then, Linville’s thirty-something years of sweat equity have culminated in a winding, successful career built of disparate parts: veteran and up-and-comer, mentor and underdog, session player and bandleader, sideman and songwriter.

A sought-after collaborator, Linville’s touring instrumental work includes turns onstage with Samantha Crain and Hayes Carll and session work with too many artists to count, among them gifted American songwriter John Moreland and indie rock stalwart Berwanger (feat. members of the Anniversary). In recent years, he’s performed his own music as hand-selected support for Carll, fellow Oklahomans Moreland and Parker Millsap, Todd Snider’s Hard Working Americans, and even country legend Marty Stuart.

Combined with his hundreds of solo shows, these collaborations and his recorded catalog, including 2017’s Up Ahead LP, have built for Linville a dedicated group of fans equally enamored of his nonchalant technical skill—whether as his own producer and studio engineer, or on guitar, pedal steel, piano, mandolin, or any number of other instruments—and his artistry and taste.

Among those fans who’ve spent decades following Linville’s solo work is Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native JD McPherson, who recollects, “Growing up in Oklahoma, Travis was known everywhere as one of the most respected musicians and performers from a very large pool of talent.”

brothers griiin

Brothers Griiin were our 2019 SixTwelve Residents in Savannah, GA, where they wrote their first full length album, Joy City. Since their residency, they have been regular supporters of our fundraisers, lending their time and taste to making our events even more fun! Weather allowing, join us on the SixTwelve lawn under the lights for a fun winter dance party!

First Friday Music at SixTwelve - Original Flow and DJ Werewulf

Introducing Original Flow, an extraordinary Hip Hop artist, Poet, and Producer renowned for his masterful way with words and profound messaging.

In the footsteps of his father, Original Flow fearlessly breaks free from the confines of mainstream music by crafting conscious lyrics that radiate positivity and celebrate triumph. Christopher G., known as Original Flow, captivates audiences with his genuine on-stage presence and a remarkable "Old School" essence that has garnered a devoted following in his hometown of Oklahoma City.

As a vital member of the Hip Hop band The Wavvez, Original Flow considers the group a unique fusion of the iconic sounds of A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots. Together, with the band's live-arrangement brilliance, featuring the talents of drummer Lil G, keyboardist Andrew, electric guitarist Danyoson, bassist Benji, and DJ Dee Rock, they create a harmonious blend that captivates audiences.

In addition to his own artistic endeavors, Original Flow passionately advocates for the preservation of storytelling in music. He believes that every melody carries a tale, a tradition that has endured since the dawn of time. By upholding the human aspect of music, Original Flow emphasizes the importance of relatability and authenticity. Regardless of whether the story is one of joy or hardship, he encourages artists to fearlessly share their narratives, allowing others to connect with the universal human experiences we all share.

DJ Werewulf will be here to support Original Flow and to keep us rocking!

First Friday at SixTwelve: Kalyn Fay and Carter Sampson

Free First Friday Show at SixTwelve:

Kalyn Fay & carter Sampson

Join us as we continue our First Friday Show Series that focuses on Oklahoma women in music!

Kalyn Fay is an Oklahoma-bred songwriter who has a voice that commands rapt attention, whether filling a theater or piercing the din of a dive bar. It’s a tenor timbre a first-time listener once aptly described as “butterscotch,” all rich and velveteen, bold, singular.

Fay’s been writing and recording her own music for as long as she's had a story to tell. She's lived more than her share of life: She's loved and lost, voraciously pursued higher education, questioned her faith, walked the line between her upbringing and her Cherokee roots, and figured out how to process and express all that through her art. She’s traveled. She’s come back home. She’s left again.

All of this is evident when she sings. Fay seems at her most comfortable when her own voice carries her story and moves it forward. Her candid lyrics reflect with a measured sorrow; they know when to say thank you, goodbye, or nothing at all. Her melodies make space for others, including an extensive collective of trusted musical collaborators from her hometown, but she will hold onto a word here and suddenly cut one off there, whenever the time is right.

When Kalyn Fay sings, you’ll hear her confessions and acceptance, vulnerability, hard-fought lessons, and measured determination. The narrative, the life lived, is hers; the warmth of her voice entrusts her story to those who will listen.

Carter Sampson is an Oklahoma born and raised, award winning singer songwriter. She tours nationally and internationally playing both solo and with her trio & band. Sampson won 1st place in the Chris Austin Song Contest at Merlefest and was a top 5 finalist in the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Troubadour Contest. Sampson has released five studio albums including her newest release LUCKY recorded with Jason Scott in Moore, OK. Sampson’s 2016 release Wilder Side received international attention and was No. 3 on the Euro Americana year end chart for 2016. She is the founder and director of The Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls OKC, a nonprofit volunteer run organization that empowers girls through music education. Carter Sampson’s band includes Kyle Reid (pedal steel & guitar), Mike Satawake (lead guitar) Luke Mullinex (bass) Jack Waters (drums).

In 2020, when the pandemic hit, SixTwelve and Swat Meet Inc joined forces to produce a fundraising album featuring Oklahoma bands (and some from beyond our state borders) recording songs that students from each nonprofit wrote! It was a beautiful collaboration that not only engaged youth creatively while everyone was stuck at home, but also supported our music community in Oklahoma.

All participants will be required to wear mask for the duration of workshop. Anyone not wearing a mask will be asked to leave.

The only thing better than money in the bank is a pantry full of  beautiful jars of canned veggies. Learn how to stock your pantry, quickly and simply, by canning fresh veggies at the peak of harvest. You will learn which veggies are safe to preserve by water bath canning, or pressure canning. As well as some of my quick tips to jump start your canning journey. Nothing is better than having jars in the pantry that you can quickly reach for on a busy night to get dinner to the table quickly. Not to mention building up food security in unstable times, such as loss of income or illness.

$35 for non-members, $20 for members.

Shammah Garcia is cofounder of Holistic Homestead/Living Faith Farms. She, her husband Sergio and 5 children, 12 and under, made the journey to 6 acres of raw, wooded and virgin land in 2018. This relocations purpose was to heal their family after diagnosis of a genetic condition that can only be controlled by clean eating. The family works together to raise, preserve, and eat food produced by thenselves. They produce one hundred percent of their own grass fed dairy and finished meats, ninety percent of their own veggies, and a small amount of fresh fruits from their own organic permaculture orchard. Together, this family is breaking the myth that a living can not be made on six acres, by living a net zero lifestyle and protecting the soil while raising and selling excess meat and veggies to the community. They want to encourage others to eat seasonally, live simply, laugh often and share a hobby.
