The relief album project,“Building Together,” joins SixTwelve with Ray June of Swat Meet Inc., student songwriters, musical artists and SixTwelve residents, Jake Ingalls and Daniel Quinlan of Spaceface + Penny Pitchlynn of LABRYS and BRONCHO, to help SixTwelve in its ongoing mission of “Sharing Tools to Build a Better Community.” We needed a little financial help after being closed for six months due to the pandemic and we wanted to provide a creative outlet for some amazing musicians so this was our answer. SixTwelve and Swat Meet Inc. students submitted song ideas, our residents provided songwriting workshops to flesh out those ideas and bands from all over the country (mostly OKC) applied to be on the album. Once selected, they were assigned these songs to record in their own style.

After all the songs were submitted, a final mix and master was compiled by Jarod Evans at Blackwatch Studios in Norman, Oklahoma and the gorgeous cover art was created by Melissa Jacobs, aka pityparty. The album was released for Pre-Order on October 13th, our executive director Amy Young’s 50th birthday, and is now widely released on a multitude of platforms (Spotify, Apple Music and more!)

The profits will equally be split to benefit SixTwelve’s PreK scholarship program and the Oklahoma City nonprofit - Swat Meet, Inc. Swat Meet Inc is an organization that helps kids learn how to write and record original music and then gives them opportunities to perform through open mic nights! Many of their students submitted amazing original songs and we are so honored to have collaborated with them on this project. It has been a dream to work with Swat Meet Inc., to build something so special with them and all involved!

daniel Quinlan 612 Artist in Residence Former Music Educator  Spaceface Member

As one of the current musicians for 612 residency, Daniel Quinlan brings his own influence, extensive knowledge of the Memphis music scene and experience in music education to Oklahoma City and to SixTwelve.

Daniel first became interested in music when his friends began sharing their personal musical tastes with him during their teenage years. Hearing music that was so different from what he had grown up with led Daniel to pursue this new found interest in whatever way he could. He started taking drum lessons as an adolescent and eventually joined his high school drumline program and other percussion groups. These groups went on to make a small name for themselves in the Memphis / Mid-South area, winning several awards and gaining notoriety. Daniel went on to study music education with an emphasis in percussion at the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music and eventually became a percussion instructor at his former high school as well as several other schools in the area. During this time as one of the senior members of his drumline, he often helped in the writing process for materials for the group. This set him up to do the same for the Memphis Grizzlies drumline (The Grizzline) in the years to follow.

Over the past several years, Daniel has helped in making a name for his band, writing and performing in Spaceface. The group gets their sound from their Memphis influences of soul and rock ‘n roll, but with more modern elements and instrumentation. Spaceface has been noted in several mainstream music publications such as KEXP, PopMatters, and Consequence of Sound, being called “a refreshing take on modern rock n’ roll” and “revival 70's influenced music in the music industry today.” Sharing a guitarist with OKC based band, The Flaming Lips, the group has often found themselves performing and working in Oklahoma and are strongly connected with the community’s music scene. This connection led to Spaceface becoming involved with SixTwelve and eventually becoming their 2020 Residents. Spaceface has most recently worked with Amy Young and SixTwelve through their annual fundraising event, the Annual SixTwelve Mardi Gras Ball in February of 2020. The band is currently working on new album material in Norman, OK at Blackwatch Studios with Oklahoma-based producer, Jarod Evans, as well as working with Amy Young on this fundraising album for SixTwelve, OKC musicians and the greater OKC community.

penny pitchlynn 612 artist in residence LABRYS AND BRONCHO, GUITAR, BASS AND VOCALS

I was born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma where I also began music making with friends in my first project, Penny Hill. I am a self-taught singer/songwriter and musician, but I claim guitar and bass as my truest loves. Since making music my main pursuit in life, I toured with other local acts, eventually joining BRONCHO. During my time off the road, I conceived of a new solo writing identity called LABRYS, for which I have released an EP and a few other tracks. After six years of touring heavily, Covid-19 and other personal upheavals had me re-evaluating pretty much everything. I am currently working on a debut full-length, and I hope to make some meaningful music in the future. Working with young people always excites me, because kids have access to the purest power of imagination. I value this power highly and seek after it spiritually and creatively. I look forward to working with kids during this very surreal time in our history. They often unknowingly tell simple truths adults easily overlook. I hope this project gives some kids the freedom to express and value the power of imagination, especially while the world experiences such dramatic shifts in perspective. The kids are the future, and I believe they are the closest to the creative energy that will survive us.
